Toccoa, Ga. – Georgia DOT announces the Oggs Branch end of Moore Circle will be closed as its intersection with State Route 17 beginning, Monday July 7. The grade of Moore Circle must be raised by four feet to match the grade of the new SR 17.
“Thankfully, Moore Circle’s other end also intersects with State Route 17 so people can still access anything they need to on Moore Circle. Beginning July 7 traffic will not be able to turn from State Route 17 onto the Oggs Branch end of Moore Circle as the grade is changed significantly. Overall the widening of 17 in Toccoa is going well and is on schedule. Currently crews are building drainage structures, working on the new bridge over Eastanollee Creek and setting the grade of the new roadway,” explained Harold Mull, Georgia DOT District Construction Engineer.
This 3.13 miles widening project upgrades SR 17 to a four lane divided highway with sidewalks from Fieldcrest Road to Memorial Drive. The contract for construction was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting of Marietta for $20 million. Road work is required to be completed by April 30, 2016.
